MeekMill shared a post on Aug 29, 2019, at 11:58 am PDT. In addition to that, there are also two new features from Drake and Future. The former appears on the track “I Don’t Know What It Is,” while the latter is featured on “Dope Boy Fresh.” Speaking about the project, Meek said: “This record was made for my fans who have been waiting patiently for me to drop another body of work. I wanted it to sound like nothing else out right now so you can hear what I’ve been working on over these past few months. This is not just a mixtape or a single; it’s a whole album.”

He added: “It’s time for us all to get back into our routines, but we need to do it smartly. We don’t want to go through any more quarantine packages. So let’s make sure we stay safe and healthy during this period. But most importantly, let’s keep each other strong!” Speaking about the title of the album, which references the phrase used by President Donald Trump when referring to himself, Meek explained: “When people say they love you, sometimes they mean it because they think you’re rich. When someone says they hate you, they might mean something different than what they’re saying. That’s why I call myself Expensive Pain.

“My life hasn’t always been easy, but I know how to handle adversity. And if anyone thinks they can take away my success, they better watch their backs. Because I ain’t going nowhere.” Speaking about the process behind making the album, Meek told Complex magazine: “We had some great producers come together and put down tracks for me. They were really good songs, but I didn’t feel comfortable putting them out yet. Then I got a chance to meet up with them again, and he gave me some ideas for beats. He sent me one beat, and I loved it. After hearing him rap on it, I knew exactly where I needed to go next.”

Speaking about the songwriting process, Meek revealed: “Somebody asked me recently, ‘What makes your music special? Why does everybody listen to your stuff?’ My answer was simple: ‘Because I write real shit.'” Talking about the inspiration behind the album, Meek said: “There’s no specific theme running throughout the entire thing. There are moments where I’m talking about money, women, cars, etc., but it doesn’t necessarily follow a storyline.”

“I’ve never felt pressure before,” he continued. “But after listening to ‘Expensive Pain,’ I realized that I could potentially lose everything. If case anything happens to me, my family won’t even be able to pay rent. I’ll probably end up homeless. I thought about that and decided that I’d rather die trying than life without doing what I love. I wouldn’t wish that pain on anybody. You’re either gonna win, or you’re gonna lose. Either way, you gotta play the game. “If you look around, everyone seems to be having fun nowadays,” he concluded. “So I figured I should too. Let’s enjoy ourselves while we still can!”

In support of the album, Meek will embark upon a North American tour later this month. Tickets go on sale Friday via Live Nation. Hip Hop DX is excited to announce the upcoming release of Meek Mill’s new project titled “Expensive Pain.” The highly anticipated LP from Philly native features DJ Mustard, Metro Boomin, Southside & TM88, among others.
